ARCHITECTURAL RECORD | Record Houses Award, 2014
We are proud of this mountain modern Sun Valley house built on a bluff overlooking Baldy Mountain. The exterior shape of this 7,800 square-foot house is geometrically complex, calling for the exterior walls to be out of parallel from the interior walls. The roof system is made of exposed wooden timbers that were custom-milled and cut offsite to ensure a precise installation. Because the large roof and floor span the entire surface, structural walls and floors were poured-in-place concrete. The “fish scale” zinc roof system serves as a rain screen and a secondary membrane roof system was installed underneath. To accomplish the complex stonework, we hired the best-qualified local mason and worked hand-in-hand to ensure the work was executed to precise specifications.
"The house is extremely well executed."
